How to Rank Higher on Google Maps: The Complete Google Business Profile Guide

When someone searches "salon near me" or "best cafΓ© in Gurugram", Google shows a map with a few businesses at the top. Being in that group can bring calls, directions and walk-ins every day. Here's how to get there, the right way.

Why Google Maps matters

Local searches come from people who are ready to visit or buy. Your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business, or GMB) is often the first thing customers see, even before your website or Instagram.

1. Set up the profile properly

  • Verify the business. Unverified profiles rarely rank well.
  • Use your real business name. Don't stuff keywords into it, as this breaks Google's guidelines.
  • Choose the right primary category. This is one of the strongest ranking signals. Add relevant secondary categories too.
  • Complete everything: address, service area, hours (including holidays), phone, website, services and products.
  • Write a helpful description that explains what you do and who you serve, in natural language.

2. Keep it active every week

Google favours profiles that look alive. Post updates, offers and events regularly, add fresh photos of your space, team and work, and answer questions in the Q&A section. Real photos usually perform far better than stock images.

3. Get real reviews and reply to all of them

Reviews influence both ranking and trust. Ask happy customers at the right moment, for example with a QR code at the counter or a WhatsApp message after service. Never buy or fake reviews: it breaks Google's policies and can get the profile suspended. Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and personally.

4. Connect it to a fast website

Your website supports your Maps ranking. Make sure your business name, address and phone number match exactly across the website and profile, and that your site loads quickly on mobile and mentions the areas you serve.

Quick checklist

  • Verified profile with the right primary category
  • Complete hours, services and description
  • Weekly posts and new photos
  • A steady flow of genuine reviews, all answered
  • Consistent name, address and phone everywhere

Ranking on Maps takes consistency, not tricks. If you'd like the work done for you, our GMB management service handles setup, weekly posts, reviews and monthly ranking reports.
